Our Services
Expert-led compliance support for Australia's complex wage environment
At WageCheq, our team of senior industrial relations specialists delivers end-to-end services that help you confidently meet your wage compliance obligations — from expert reviews to full remediation and ongoing assurance. Whether you're responding to a risk or proactively managing it, our services give you clarity, defensibility and peace of mind.
A third-party assessment is essential given the highly complex industrial relations framework. The framework's overlapping Awards and Enterprise Agreements make payroll processing prone to error. With the Fair Work Ombudsman actively auditing businesses, independent verification protects companies from further financial liability and reputational damage.
Our industrial relations system interprets industrial Instruments and prescribes employer obligations including Penalty Rates, Overtime, Loadings, Allowances, and Leave Entitlements. All of which must be configured correctly in internal systems.
With mandatory Single Touch Payroll (STP) Phase 2 reporting, the ATO now has granular visibility of every payroll run. Discrepancies don't go undetected. Internal company audits often suffer from confirmation bias. Independent third parties provide objective reviews, uncovering systemic underpayment and providing a structured path to rectification before regulators intervene.
DeskCheq — A Diagnostic Health Check
DeskCheq is a cost-effective analysis using existing sources of payroll information to gather data and insights and provide preliminary risk assessments.
We undertake a high-level evaluation of your payroll architecture to identify structural and regulatory misalignment relying entirely on submitted evidence. Desk top reviews are commonly used by government bodies (like the ATO or FWO) for a remote paperwork inspection.
DeskCheq is a gap analysis, specifically designed to compare current documentation against your FWA and FW Regulations obligations. We check if a compliance system exists on paper but do not verify if day-to-day practices match the documents.
The WageCheq team samples a cohort of employees to identify areas of non-compliance and potential remediation. WageCheq provides a preliminary report based on the information supplied including: Contract Templates, Salary-top-up Clauses, Annualised Wage Arrangements, Standard hourly rates, Allowance triggers, and Superannuation definitions.
QuickCheq — A Proactive Health Check & Targeted Audit
QuickCheq reviews your highest-risk employee groups, by quantifying payroll system accuracy without the cost of a full-scale audit, providing early detection of systematic payroll errors.
We undertake data-driven transactional tests designed to verify that your payroll software logic accurately reflects your legal obligations. We pressure-test actual payroll data using targeted workforce sampling. QuickCheq audit the following:
- A forensic recalculation of a sample of a three-month period of complete pay cycles for high-exposure employees (e.g., annualised salaries, shift-workers, high-overtime teams)
- Compare actual timesheet data against pay slips
WageCheq will undertake a variance analysis comparing raw time-and-attendance data against final gross-to-net payroll outputs, testing complex system rules, penalty rate compounding, public holiday entitlements and allowances.
The audit will include Systemic Configuration Variance testing which will enable WageCheq to provide a report identifying systemic software configuration errors that could be driving compounding liabilities and potential breaches of the FWA or FW regulations.
AwardCheq — Award Mapping
Award Mapping is the process of identifying which Modern Award and/or Enterprise Agreement (EA) applies to an employee. It maps a role’s duties, qualifications, and responsibilities to the relevant industrial instrument and wage classification.
Before a compliance audit can begin, it's critical to understand exactly how Awards, EAs and contractual terms apply to each employee. Our team conducts a thorough review of your business operations and workforce structure as part of the Award mapping process:
- Review day-to-day duties, required skills, autonomy, and qualifications
- Identify the employer's industry sector and the dominant purpose of each employee’s role
- Identify if the role is covered by an Award or EA
- Match an employee role to the relevant classification level
- Identify the relevant classification, minimum pay rate, applicable allowances, loadings and penalty rates
The WageCheq team reviews position/job descriptions and all employment Contracts to identify the applicable industrial instrument. Also if an employee is Award/EA free. The report identifies areas of non-compliance and includes remediations.
This foundational step ensures all compliance activities are based on accurate, defensible assumptions — reducing the risk of costly errors down the track.
CompCheq — Comprehensive Full Audit & Historical Liability Quantification
CompCheq is a systematic review of your payroll processes, calculations, and time and attendance records. It verifies that employees are paid accurately, and by comparing what employees should be paid against what they received, that you are meeting your legal obligations. CompCheq identifies over and under payments.
WageCheq will undertake an exhaustive, retrospective forensic examination across your entire payroll footprint to isolate, calculate, and quantify your exact historical financial and legal exposure.
We rebuild historical entitlements from scratch using WageCheq's proprietary engine, comparing entitlements to actual pay to identify any shortfalls considering any set-off arrangements and contractual terms.
- Rebuild and recalculate 100% of employee shifts across the full statutory limitation period (up to 6 years)
- Produce detailed reports for each affected employee
- Algorithmic gross-to-net reconstruction factoring in historical leave loading, superannuation guarantee (SG) shortfalls, and statutory interest
- Preparing independent, audit-ready valuation models for board oversight, M&A due diligence and regulatory submission
WageCheq provides a legally defensible, line-by-line calculation of total historical underpayment or overpayment exposure. The report also identifies systemic misconfigurations to stem ongoing noncompliance.
WageCheq works with you to manage communication and reporting protocols with the Fair Work Ombudsman, ATO, State Revenue, and where required, unions.
